Tricky little monster - I don t know whether it is Vista or the Canon Pixma IP4200 printer but I had nothing but problems installing this - most certainly did not work straight out of the box as the instructions suggest! Finally beat it into submission though, but not using the useless software. There was a lot of help in chatrooms, which saved me a lot of time. After installing the IP4200 drivers for Vista, I installed the Linksys software. I went with a static IP address. From the Control panel I went to the IP4200 properties and added a standard TCP/IP port, input the IP address, clicked on LPR and typed L2 in LPR queue. Overall more hassle than I expected but neat little box that seems fine now.
Driver problem overcome - I ve seen a lot of forum-based moans about this PrintServer, from people who were unable to load drivers for their All-In-One printers.Mine is a HP OfficeJet 5610 and I too had difficulties getting the network to connect via the server.I overcame the problem as follows:1. Installed printer driver for Officejet onto PCs required to access it.2. Added Printer Server (via Control Panel) on each PC and selected (incorrect) driver from Windows list.3. Accessed Properties for the Server and changed the default printer to my 5610Hope this helps anyone else who has had issues.
Buggy software and definitely not for Epson D88 or similar! - As an Ethernet switch the PSUS4 is fine, but its valuie as a print server is very limited. The installation software is very poor and wouldn t install the prinserver driver on my DELL laptop or HP desktop PC. The Linksys support site was not at all helpful. When I did finally get the drivers installed I found the PSUS4 to be a very basic print server. Whilst you could fire documents at it and they would print, you could not communicate with the printer to find any status information. That makes it unusable with the Epson series as you need a working Print Utility to know which ink cartridge to change!! Without two-way communications with the printer the system becomes unusable - not quite the works with virtually any printer that Linksys claim!!
Excellent for Windows - others beware - Using a HP Deskjet 950c with this printer server worked wonderfully on Windows - a combination of the latest HP drivers for NT, 2000 and XP and the supplied server driver worked very easily. The only issue is with the firewall in XP SP2 - at present I have to turn this off to print from my laptop though I may be able to sort this out using a firewall rule.Trying to get my G4 iBook to work was another thing entirely! The server is claimed to work with Appletalk - it doesn t with this printer (garbage printed).Looking at other reviews I suspect to have fun getting Linux to work as well. Luckily my printer works fine, but many others (especially multi-function devices) simply don t.If you only run Windows machines and your printer is supported, this is a good buy (especially with the extra switched ports thrown in). If you run mixed systems, just be prepared to work a bit harder.
Superb Value For Money - This product is fantastic, it arrived today and it was up and running within 10minutes. I have i wireless laptop running XP home and a wirless router. Other website reviews have said they had a problem with it and hp laserjects, i have a hp laserjet 1010 and they work perfectly together. This is a great product and Amason have it at the lowest price i have seen!
